78 Harley gas mixture

Postby cptkirk » Mon Jun 16, 2003 6:22 pm

I have a 1978 Harley gas golf cart. Is it 2 or 4 stroke and how do I tell? What ratio do I mix gas and oil? Any and all info is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Harley gas/oil mix

Postby Jim » Tue Jul 01, 2003 4:08 pm

I just got a 75 Harley gas golf car and the oil/gas mix ratio instructions were inside the gas tank access door. It said to mix 1 oz. of Harley Davidson golf car oil with one gallon of gas. Use regular gas only. It also said, " As a temporary substitute, 2 1/2 oz. of a 40W non-detergent motor oil can be used".
I would contact a Harley dealer to see if any good two-stroke oil can be used and to find out what the proper ratio is. I.E. 50:1, 40:1, 32:1 etc. That's what I'm trying to do now.
Out of curiosity, what did you have to give for your 78? Is it a 3-wheeler?
Hope this helps,
Jim

1978 Harley

Postby Tom » Mon Jul 14, 2003 10:56 pm

Hi
I also have a 1978 Harley Cart & the mixture was on the inside of the Gas access door. Mine is a 3 wheel, The only thing I can't seem to find out is what the horsepower is. If anyone knows I'd appreciate hearing from them.
Thanks Tom
Tom
