PLEASE help power issues

i have a 1975 pargo 36volt 4-wheeled golfcart 8 solenoids
it lacked power going up hills pretty much it wont when i put it up on a jack i would lightly press the pedal to engange first speed and nothing when i pressed harder second engaged pressed harder to 3rd speed it would engage pressed to 4th speed and nothing so i replaced the 1st and 4th speed solenoid and diodes thinking that was the issue
well now when i press to first speed STILL NOTHING 2nd speed works now 3rd seems to not be and 4th does i dont get it please if anyone has any comments or info that could help me i would sure appreciate it

Are you sure each solenoid is kicking in at the right time? Do you have a wiring diagram to make sure everything is connected correctly?
