WIRING THE STARTER GENERATOR MOTOR ON A 1988 EZGO GAS CART

WIRING THE STARTER GENERATOR MOTOR ON A 1988 EZGO GAS CART

Postby FOUNTAINBOATER » Mon Nov 01, 2004 3:47 pm

I AM REPLACING THE STARTER GENERATOR MOTOR ON MY 1988 EZ GO 2 CYCLE GAS CART AND I FORGOT TO LABEL THE WIRES WHEN I TOOK THEM OFF. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THE TWO LARGE BLACKWIRES AND THE TWO LARGE RED WIRES REATTACH. THE BLACK WIRES COME FROM THE TOP AND PASSENGER SIDE CENTER OF THE FORWARD REVERSE SWITCH AND THE RED ONES COME FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE CENTER AND BOTTOM OF THE SAME SWITCH. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THANKS

Unless someone else can help you today, I'll bring my manual with me tomorrow and give you the proper routing.

FOUNTAINBOATER,
I don't know if this will help or not.
I just went next door and looked at my 90 that's dissasembled.
Here goes  ........
Looking at the start/gen from the side w/pulley towards the right:
small green wire on bottom - goes to regulator.
Closest big wire on side goes to solenoid.
Other wire on the body side goes to the F/N/R switch, bottom terminal looking at it with the cut corners(mounting bracket) as the top.
Back plate of start/gen, post closest to the green regulator wire goes to the left terminal on the F/N/R switch.
Back plate, other wire goes to top post F/N/R switch.
Sorry for the confusing description but I bought this cart apart and am going to do a motor/rear frame swap so I never paid much attention to stock details.

Fountainboater, Ok I have my manual in front of me now so I will try to explain as best I can.

The top post on the f/n/r switch goes to the top of the generator.
The bottom post goes to chassis ground.
The drivers side post goes to front of starter drivers side post.
The passenger side post goes to front of starter passenger side post.
There should be a green wire coming from the voltage regulator that attaches to a post under the starter.
Also should be a large wire from the solenoid to the under side of the starter, I don't think it goes to the same post as the green wire but I would have to look at mine to tell you for sure.
Someone else who is home with their cart can maybe go out and check that for you.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with, glad to do it.
