1995 EzGo Medalist

Postby electric_cart » Mon Nov 02, 2009 12:28 pm

My EzGo is making bad noise either from the Motor of from the transfer case. I have lifted the cart and ran the motor and I can't tell if the grinding noise is from the motor or from the transfer case that it mounts to. Can someone provide me of a drawing of the transfer case, how exactly does it work, are there bearings and gears that are replaceable or does one have to replace the whole rear end. The manual I bought for the cart does not cover this area of the cart. The cart still goes it makes it through 18 holes on the course but it really makes a ugly grinding noise. Noise is not coming from the wheels so it is not a dragging brake. Thoughts on how to isolate this noise problem and a drawing of the transfer case would be very helpful. Oil level in the rear end seems ok, if I loosen the fill plug oil runs out. SAE 5-30 oil installed when I put the cart in service in early summer. Noise was not there initially but has progressed over the summer.

The motor noise is usually a higher pitch whining type noise.

I would open up differential and dissasemble it and check bearings and gears.

Remove pan and you can get to the spider gear set. You have to pull the axles out some to get the gear set out. To pull axles, remove brake hub and there is a snap ring holding in the axle and bearing.

Remove the motor and there is a snap ring holding input shaft gear and bearings.

There are a couple of "freeze plugs" that you have to remove to remove the intermediate gears.

give me your email and I can forward a gear breakdown.

Thanks John,

Please send the gear information to LowellL@aja.com. PS I think I bought the motor in this cart from you, one you had pulled from a fleet of carts.

Email sent with attachment.

I would remove the motor and check the input shaft and those bearings first.
