96 club car gas, runs and loss of power

Postby 96 club car gas » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:12 pm

cart runs for a while then sputters to a slow ,wants to cut out but will keep going barley full throotle. pull over stop for a second-30 seconds starts back up runs ok then does it again.this happens at full throotle operation.if i run at 1/2 throttle cart will run without issues.

purchased cart 3 monts ago. ran fine other then governor cut out at full throttle.

played with throttle cable unde black box/vertical short rod out of differntial.

didn't have any luck with governor issues.

set all back to origianl adjustments then it started to act up. run/sputter/like above.

disconnectd rpm limiter

governor in factory location

throttle cable in black box at 50% of threads in aqdjustment.

this is my 1st post.so not familiar , but am hoping someone can help.

____________________________________________________________________

It was the air cleaner cover.

____________________________________________________________________

Disconnected rev limiter. adjusted throttle cable out all the way.( 1-2 threads left in black box.). runs alot faster.

disconnected governor and it really runs.

with both disconnected there is no control of speed per the gas pedal.

slight pressure on gas pedal (1/4) and it's at wide open.

is there a way to adjust so I can have governor and limiter both disconnected and be able to use throttle like normal.

______________________________________________________________________

I'm trying to figure out were to purchase tiny tac.
I see it all over the postings were it has been used, but can't figure out were it was purchased from.

_______________________________________________________________________

From what I have read, with limiter disconnected and governor intact rpm won't go over the 4200?

Were would rpm's be with just limiter disconnected.

Please advise

Thanks

Tim

drive clutch(on crankshaft) rattles while starting off, stopping.

not sure were belt is in relation to top. but will check that. if not at 1/8 to max of 1/4 then maching is needed?

I'm sure I need to rebuild.

I've read your postings on clutches and am interested in maching clutch/rebuild/stronger springs.

Would you machine my clutch/rebuild. Would have to Brown truck it to you.

Cost?

If not, any info on who does this.

Thanks

Tim

Jerry,
Cart starts cold right up
After warms up it doesn't start smoothly. It vary's
Light throttle might fire up and go.light to 1/4 throttle turns over a few times starts take off right away.

No real consistent start up,not smooth.

I have you post on cleaning carb.

clutch issues

tune up plug/air cleaner (anything else on tune up.)

Probably need to tune up, clean carb, open up jet,K+N,rebuild clutch, replace drive belt?

TOP END ENGINE CLEANER? what type, how much
put in tank/ with fuel. ratio fuel to cleaner.

any input on above.to get smooth start up/take off.

any other input.

Disconnecting the rev limiter won't change the RPM. The max RPM will be under 4200 with or without the rev limiter until you adjust the governor. Without the rev limiter you could go over 4200 RPM with stock governor setting if you were going down hill. Your best bet is get a tach or leave the limiter hooked up.

I figured out maintence switch (yellow knob).

I googled tiny tac, located place to purchase.

torque converter is around 1/2 inch from top. needs to be rebuilt/machined.

is there a tread on rebuilding converter.

what side, area, does the machine shop machine.

i put throttle cable into black box about 1/2 (treads are 1/2 way into box) throttle is alot smoother.lose top speed this way.

Thanks for any help you can give me on jetting, air cleaner, etc.

You may not need a rebuild, how wide is your belt?

I put cart in maintence mode.

Belt is about 1 inch away from top of converter.

I pulled converter and am sending to get machined then I will rebuild.New belt etc.

I plan on putting in the power spring.

About a 200 rpm stall.

Any experience with spring and effecting smoothness of take off. ( will it jerk forward ).

I understand I will be able to idle cart (some what ) with this spring.

I adjusted my values also. They were really tight.

No back fires through carb anymore at start up.

Are you getting a power spring for the front or rear clutch? Or both? The rear spring won't increase jerk any. The front spring can cause a little jerk if you are fast on the gas.
